In the last few decades, the way we learn has changed a lot. Online methods of learning have replaced traditional classes in the classroom. They blend the flexibility of prerecorded lessons with class meetings that are held using real-time software. These online methods may not be sufficient for students who prefer a classroom that has real-time interaction.

Live online learning is a great alternative strategy to other online learning strategies. It permits instructors and students to communicate in real-time using videoconferencing programs such as Zoom. These classes give students the opportunity to ask questions, resolve confusion, and gain a more understanding of the material being taught.

Although live learning has many advantages, some students could find it difficult to adapt to this type online learning. This study examines the student’s readiness for live learning and identifies the main factors that influence it. The results reveal that major factors that affect the student’s readiness include motivation to learn, online communication and self-directed learning capabilities. Researchers also conducted a post-hoc study and multi-group analysis that compared gender differences among undergraduate and graduate students, as well as sub-degree students. The study revealed that postgraduates are better prepared for live learning than undergraduates and sub-degree students.

To ensure that students are adequately prepared for the Live Session it is suggested that instructors set out clear expectations of what they must know and do before, during and after the session. This means providing additional materials such as summary, gist quizzes sketches, concept maps and study guides. Instructors can also create exercises to reinforce what students have learned – such as reviewing, practicing, debating, and analyzing.
